Manipulating 3D objects

Context menu

In Glue you can easily move 3D objects just by Grabbing and moving them but to be able to move, scale or rotate them to a precisely specified direction or size there is a better way. An exact way to manipulate 3D objects is enabled via the Context menu. That allows you either to lock, unlock, manipulate or delete objects. Locking an object means that it is not movable anymore. All Team members are able to unlock the object. Manipulating via the Context menu allows you to move, rotate and scale an object in a precise way using XYZ coordinates.

Manipulating objects in Desktop mode

  • In either Mouselook or Cursor mode, right-clicking over an interactable object will display its Context menu.
  • By choosing the Lock icon you will either lock or unlock the object depending on its state regarding the locking function.
  • Choosing “Delete” will obviously delete the object, and choosing “Manipulate” gives an option to either move, rotate or scale the object in XYZ coordinates. The manipulation can be done either by clicking the arrow sign of the corresponding coordinate and sliding the cursor - or by entering a numeric value. Both the slider and the numeric values work in world coordinates (up/down/sideways relative to the virtual space).
  • You can also move/rotate the object to any direction (relative to the virtual space) by rotating the gizmo attached to the object by grabbing the circle corresponding to the coordinate arrow with your cursor and sliding. After rotating the gizmo to a wanted position, you can move the object to the direction where the coordinate arrow points, by grabbing the arrow with the cursor and sliding.
  • Choosing the “World coordinate” icon (in the lower left corner) disables moving the object to any other direction than up/down/sideways relative to the virtual space.

Manipulating objects in VR mode

By holding the grab button and pointing at a selectable object, you’ll see a selection ray. By pulling the trigger while still holding the grab button you open the object’s context menu, allowing you to delete or manipulate the object. The context menu is operated by touch, just like the Tablet. By choosing the Lock icon you will either lock or unlock the object depending on its state regarding the locking function. Choosing “Delete” will obviously delete the object, and choosing “Manipulate” gives an option to either move, rotate or scale the object in XYZ coordinates. The manipulation can be done either by touching the arrow sign of the corresponding coordinate and sliding the virtual finger - or by entering a numeric value.

Two hands scaling

In VR you are also able to scale objects simply by grabbing and stretching them using both your virtual hands.
